From the City
- Start from the NJ Transit area at Penn Station (34th St, MSG)
- Purchase a Rail Ticket from the Orange and Blue Kiosk machines or on the NJ Transit App
- Rail Ticket from: NEW YORK PENN STATION to HARRIMAN (One Way Adult for $15.50 + tax)
- Board any NJ Transit Commuter Train to Secaucus Junction (Schedule will say “SEC” next to any train that stops at Secaucus. Leaves every 15-20 minutes)
- Ride 1 stop to Secaucus Junction. Transfer to the Port Jervis line by heading upstairs, through the turnstiles (you’ll need your ticket), and following signs back downstairs to Tracks E/F or G/H.
- Ride about 1 hour from SECAUCUS to HARRIMAN
- These trains run every 20-50ish minutes. Check the schedules on the NJ Transit App
- Someone will check your ticket during the ride, so keep it handy.
- Get off at Harriman, and Chris will come pick you up. Then it’s about a 15 minute drive to the house.
Back to the City
- There are two options to do the trip in reverse:
- From HARRIMAN station (about 15 minute drive from the house), trains leave every 60-90 minutes, so discuss with Chris which train you’d like to catch.
- It’s the exact same trip in reverse, so again tickets can be bought from the Orange and Blue Kiosk machines or on the NJ Transit App from HARRIMAN to NEW YORK PENN STATION. Somebody will check your ticket on the train.
- From SUFFERN station (about 35 minute drive from the house), trains leave much more frequently, about every 20-25 minutes. So this is a good option if the Harriman schedule doesn’t work, but Chris will have to drive you further.
- It’s basically still the exact same trip in reverse, except Suffern is about 3 stops closer to the city. Again tickets can be bought from the Orange and Blue Kiosk machines or on the NJ Transit App from SUFFERN to NEW YORK PENN STATION. Somebody will check your ticket on the train.
- Get off at SECAUCUS JUNCTION, head up the escalators, through the turnstile (ticket needed), and down to Tracks A/B or Track 2 or 3 (most people at this point will be heading back into the city, so you can just follow the crowd or ask which trains are going to NY). These “commuter” trains back into Manhattan leave every 15-20 minutes.
- Ride 1 stop to NEW YORK PENN STATION and you’ll be back in the city.
